Observers in the western USA will be treated to a rare “Annular” solar eclipse, on the afternoon of May 20th. An annular eclipse of the sun occurs when the moon is near apogee or at its farthest distance from the Earth and simply can not cover the sun completely. Thus, we get a “Ring Of Fire” around the eclipsed sun…..an event that may be dangerous to the untrained observer.
